World’s Longest Underwater Radio Broadcast






Andark diving & watersports and Wave 105 Radio broadcaster Simon Clarke broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Underwater Radio Broadcast in aid of Cash for Kids. Simon spent a total of 5 hours underwater doing his live radio broadcast from 11:00 – 16:00.

 

Andark Diving & Watersports built a radio studio that would be suitable for underwater use at their indoor pool near Southampton, where Simon Clarke tookup the challenge.

 

Simon only learnt to swim a year ago for a previous Cash For Kids challenge and to spend 5 hours underwater was anamazing feat, Simon said after “If it wasn’t for my kids (Georgina &Matthew) encouraging me to learn to swim I wouldn’t be stood here being a Guinness World Record holder” Georgina said after “ We are very proud of you daddy, we knew you could do it” 

 

Simon’s broadcast was packed full of guests that also took the plunge into his underwater studio including Phil Harding from Time Team and Dr John Bevan, the first man to dive to 1000ft.

 

Andy Goddard,Director of Andark summed the day up “Agreat team effort by all, I didn’t expect us to break the record by that length of time. It was a fantastic achievement for Simon and the whole team involved.”
