The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) was founded
in November 1875 as the Yacht Racing Association (RYA). Its primary purpose was
to standardise the rules governing the measurement of racing yachts, so that
boats of different classes could compete against each other.
Nowadays it governs and administers the training and
certification of competence in handling all types of leisure craft, including
sailing, RIBs, motor cruisers and other powerboats.
At Andark, we run the Powerboat courses at Levels 1 and 2, the
latter of which will also qualify for the International Certificate of
Competence, a legal requirement for those wishing to take their boats into
Europe and the Mediterranean. We can also issue PADI Boat Handler, an Andark Distinctive Specialty
RYA Powerboat Training
Powerboating is a fantastic sport with styles of boat to suit
everyone, and participation is increasing all the time with powerboating now
standing out as a sport in its own right.
The RYA National Powerboat Scheme exists to meet the needs of
those who use small, open powerboats for leisure or work, whether for their own
sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue.
The scheme has been revised to acknowledge the tremendous
advances in boats, equipment and people's aspirations and the new syllabus aims
to provide a level of training to suit all from the casual leisure user, to
weekend cruisers and the commercial skipper.
