The Helicopter Emergency Egress Device (HEED) is a compact, lightweight, and reliable breathing system designed to enhance the survivability of aircrew by protecting them from the dangers of drowning due to ditching an aircraft into the water. HEED is also used for protecting shipboard members from inhaling dangerous and lethal toxic fumes such as those found in an engine room fire. The HEED III is the updated, advanced model of the HEED II (SRU-36/P).
Weighing only 1.3 pounds, this system provides up to 30 breaths of air and is completely refillable from either an air compressor or SCUBA tank. This HEED III has a fully activated purge button and dial guage pressure indicator allowing for exact air pressure reading in the tank - no guessing!
The HEED III is an independant air source, a miniature SCUBA system consisting of a compact, lightweight air cylinder and built in demand regulator. The HEED III holds a small but sufficient supply of air to make a safe ascent back to the surface. The refillable cylinder is a high grade aluminium alloy, fillable to a pressure of 3,000 psi, holds 1.7 cubic feet of air and is DOT approved. The regulator screws onto the neck of the cylinder and the silicon mouthpiece protrudes from one side. The regulator is a unique, single stage system with a breathing diaphragm, manual purge button at the top and rubber exhaust valve at the bottom. All of the components are built to U.S. Military specifications.
